You’re hoping that there’s a way out of this, and are wanting to learn new ways of doing things. Or, are you a premarital couple? I offer PREPARE/ENRICH, and will help you delve deeper into your strengths and growth areas, so the transition to marriage is smoother. I also work with couples who are transitioning to parenthood (or who have already transitioned), who want to figure out how to parent together in a way that doesn’t make you want to strangle each other. ;)</image:caption>

<image:caption>Being a mom is hard (is that the understatement of the year? And partners, our hats off to you as well.). Do you need support, a shoulder to cry on, someone who will listen to you no matter what you say, and someone who will not judge or condemn you? There’s probably nothing you’re feeling that I haven’t heard, or felt myself. Right now, things feel impossibly hard and you’re wondering if you’ll always feel this way. You’re crying a lot, you’re angry, and you’re feeling guilty for almost everything, and are embarrassed for feeling and thinking the things you do. Whatever you’re feeling or needing, I’ll help support you before and after baby comes. Together, we’ll make a plan to get you back on your feet, feeling like your normal self again. Even if it’s years after baby is here--you don’t have to go through this alone; I am here to help.</image:caption>

<image:title>Services - New Parent/Gottman Bringing Baby Home</image:title>
<image:caption>Baby enters the picture and instead of everything being rosy and amazing, life is turned upside down. Mom is feeling overwhelmed, [sometimes] doesn’t like being a parent and feels guilty about that, and is in a perpetual state of exhaustion. Mom is also feeling angry at her partner for not helping more. Partner feels totally unimportant and isolated, and doesn’t get why Mom isn’t happier. Baby cries. Fights escalate. Both parents feel alone, that their needs are unimportant, and are utterly exhausted. Sound familiar? Read on. Even the strongest relationships are strained during the transition to parenthood. Lack of sleep, never-ending housework and new fiscal concerns can lead to profound stress and a decline in marital satisfaction — all of which affect baby’s care. Not surprisingly, 69% of new parents experience conflict, disappointment, and hurt feelings. Our research-based Bringing Baby Home workshops prepare couples for life with baby and helps them be the best parenting team possible. In a relaxed and supportive environment, parents learn to strengthen their relationship and foster baby’s development during this challenging time. They build on what Dr. Gottman and colleagues found is the best predictor of marital adjustment after baby arrives: the quality of friendship in the marriage. This workshop combines scientific research and public education to improve the quality of life for babies and children by strengthening their families. It teaches new parents how to gain relationship satisfaction and create healthy social, emotional, and intellectual development for their children. Click here to learn more about Dr. Gottman’s parenting research. Or, if you’re ready for some change in your house, contact me to learn more about the FUN classes I offer! (Note: I also offer this service to expecting parents—it’s the perfect way to prepare for your little bundle. :))</image:caption>

<image:title>Services - Couples/relational therapy</image:title>
<image:caption>Couples Relational therapy People come to therapy usually because something’s wrong—somehow there’s a disconnect between you and your partner. It could be that you’re continually finding yourself in gridlocked issues and don’t know how to move past them. Or, you feel misunderstood and don’t know why your partner just doesn’t get it. For other partners, there’s been an affair, and you’re wondering if you should continue your relationship, or, you’re wondering how you could ever work through what happened—trust has been shattered, you’re feeling so many things, and you don’t see how you can get through this. You’ve tried to work through these things, and it’s not working anymore. I’ll help you delve into these issues to find out why they’re happening, and then we’ll explore how to change those patterns.</image:caption>

<image:title>About - Life Experience</image:title>
<image:caption>Being the daughter of a corporate executive, I was lucky enough to have lived on three different continents by the time I was a junior in high school (North America, Europe, and Asia). This was highly formative, and because of those experiences of being the “other”, I have a desire for helping those who feel they don’t have a voice. From my own experience and in helping others, I believe when we feel nurtured and safe in relationships, we shine—it creates an opportunity for us to grow into our best selves. I’ve been married for 20 years, and my husband and I have had to fight for our marriage. Our marriage hasn’t always been easy, and I truly understand the heartache, frustration, and hopelessness (and sometimes rage, ha!) that can accompany hurt relationships. We’ve had some amazing therapists (both individual and relational) and I wholeheartedly believe that the skills we learned in therapy, alongside our hard work, has helped us to grow as individuals and as a couple. I bring those years of lived experience with me into the therapy room. I’m passionate about getting to the core(s) of the issue, and teaching practical tools to help couples experience relief, a better sense of connectedness, and even joy. I’m also a mother of three children, and suffered from postpartum anxiety and depression with my first two kids (and being a therapist myself I wasn’t able to realize that I had it—it can take a specially trained eye to see it). I experienced severe sleep deprivation for years, and know how absolutely awful it is. Parenthood can be extremely isolating and emotionally taxing, and I have a tender spot in my heart for those who are in the throws of it. Education Bachelor of Arts degree in Marketing Management from the University of St. Thomas Master of Arts degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Bethel University. Additional training/education Certified Relational Life Therapist (extensive couples training) Sex Therapy from UW Stout’s graduate sex therapy certificate program Energy psychology (emotional freedom technique (EFT), otherwise known as “tapping”) , levels 1 and 2 Maternal mental health through Postpartum Support International Gottman’s Bringing Baby Home workshop Gottman Couples Level 1 Gottman Affairs and Trauma EMDR certified Ego States Discernment Counseling Flash Technique Sandra Paulsen “Looking Through the Eyes” Sandra Paulsen “When There Are No Words” STAIR (Self-Trust and Integrated Resilience) Level 1 PREPARE/ENRICH certified</image:caption>

<image:title>About - Style or types of therapy?</image:title>
<image:caption>I don’t have a one-size-fits-all approach to therapy. I am trained in family systems, so I like to look at the whole picture (your current and past relationships, and other influencing factors) during our sessions. With that said, I do lean towards attachment theory in practice. I use a collaborative approach, which means I’m working alongside of you, in a way that’s comfortable and honoring to you. I’ll encourage you, focus on your strengths, support you, give education when appropriate, and I may challenge some of your beliefs from time to time. If you’re wanting to change, I think the best way is to try to figure out why you’re doing the things you’re doing. So, we’ll explore that, and then work on meaningful new ways of doing things and relating to others. In addition to talk-therapy, I also use a mind-body approach, and can utilize EMDR and EFT (tapping).</image:caption>

<image:title>About - Give from your overflow…</image:title>
<image:caption>Authenticity- Brene Brown said it best: “Authenticity is a collection of choices that we have to make every day. It's about the choice to show up and be real. The choice to be honest. The choice to let our true selves be seen.” This can be scary and hard, and I’d be honored to work alongside you to help let your authentic, beautiful self shine. Affirmation- I welcome clients ready to change and grow, I value cultural and gender identity and love that families come in all shapes and sizes. I support LGBTQIA individuals and families. My practice is open to all new and expecting parents and individuals who need help regardless of race, religion, sexual orientation, gender orientation, etc.</image:caption>

<image:title>Fees - Insurance</image:title>
<image:caption>Bloom Wellness & Counseling is an out-of-network provider for all insurance companies. Some insurance companies have out-of-network reimbursement options. Clients with out-of-network benefits will need to submit a bill of services ("Superbill") for possible reimbursement. The best way to find out if you have out-of-network coverage is to call the number on the back of your insurance card. For those wanting to submit a Superbill, this will be provided to you on a monthly basis. Please let me know, so I can prepare one for you. Please confirm reimbursement policies with your insurance company. Below are some questions to ask when calling your insurance provider so that you are financially prepared for your first appointment. - Do I have an out-of-network mental health benefits? - What is my deductible and has it been met? - What is the coverage amount per therapy session?
